No-Stress Chess rules and card levels
Cards decide which type of chess piece you may move. The board uses familiar chess movement, but the goal is to capture the king rather than deliver checkmate.
Level 1: draw one card
Draw one card, then move a piece of the type shown. After the move, discard the card and pass the turn. If that piece type has no legal move, discard the card and pass.
Level 2: choose from a hand
Each player starts with three cards. Draw a fourth card, choose one playable card, move that piece type, discard the chosen card, and pass. A hand may be replaced only under the replacement conditions shown in the game.
Movement, special moves, and winning
Pieces follow their usual movement patterns. Basic castling, en passant on the next turn, and promotion to a queen, rook, bishop, or knight are supported. There is no check or checkmate restriction; the first player to capture the opposing king wins.
